AREMA Simple-Span Steel Bridge Spreadsheet | Limitations of Spreadsheet: 1. 4 girders max 2. 80 ft max span length 3. For ballasted deck only spans 4. Simple span only 5. Composite deck action for unsupported deck pour only (i.e. steel only carries steel and concrete, partial composite for remaining dead load, full composite action for live loads.). 6. Live Load Deflection calculated for Alternate Load only which controls for spans 50' or less. 7. Works for curved bridges: Should also work for tangent bridges but be sure to check. 8. This bridge has fascia beams: if your bridge does not be sure to modify spreadsheet to include ballast retainers in dead load list. 9. Spreadsheet accepts varying girder spacing, although not recommended for constructability. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. AUTHOR MAKES NO GUARANTEE AS TO IT'S CORRECTNESS OR ACCURACY. | | Matthew A Danza | 2018 07
Available_Moment_vs_Unbraced_Length_per_13th_Ed._Manual.xls | The strong-axis available flexural strength (both in ASD and LRFD) is plotted as a function of unbraced length, Lb, for W, C and MC shapes. Beam Calculator | The program will plot the curves for any set of user-selected cross sections. The program will also allow the user to input a design moment and unbraced length and give the lightest sections that are adequate, from the list of user-selected shapes. You must enable macros in MS Excel for this program to work. Note: security has been removed, so this file is now user-modifiable if you are sufficiently familiar with Excel programming & scripting. This tool was originally published as an AISC Steel Solutions Center 'SteelTool'. AISC no longer technically supports and maintains these files. Therefore, it is availale to any user 'unlocked' for those to freely update and modify on their own and post to their own profiles. This document has been prepared in accordance with information made available to the American Institute of Steel Construction at the time of its preparation. Beam Calculator V14 | Entirely updated and improved, this utility plots the curves for any set of user-selected structural steel sections. It also lets the user input a design moment and unbraced length and will return the lightest sections that are adequate (from the list of user-selected shapes). Based upon ANSI/AISC 360-10, with newly-added capabilities for noncompact and slender shapes. Also added detailed information for any selected beam. NOTE: there is still an issue printing the charts from within a form, but you can print a chart by first selecting "go to the chart"within a form, and then printing! This matter is presently being investigated. You must enable macros in Excel or this program will not work. Curved Elements: Arches, Parabolas, Catenaries | A collection of Mathcad Worksheets dealing with curved members. The Arches collection is quite comprehensive of anything 2D, treating 3-hinges, 2-hinges and fixed arches, temperature and settlement effects, bridge-like situations, any set of loads, buckling, both analytic and numerical solutions etc. The Parabola and Catenary section deals more with cable-like situations, allowing as well for the design of tendons in specific situations to compensate some loads. | | Manuel I Oliveros | 2018 07
Flexural_Torsional_Combined_Stress | This is a very useful tool for structural engineers, using STAAD.pro and the LRDF provisions, to design steel members subjected to both torsional as well as flexural stresses; ex.: pipe support structures. STAAD.pro 2007 v.8i, only supports the ASD torsional checking for steel members but not the LRFD checking. This tool (in the form of an Excel workbook), extracts the LRFD results from STAAD.pro, processes them and then combines STAAD.pro's flexural stresses with the torsional stresses (calculated inside the Excel workbook) and checks all the stresses in accordance with LRFD provisions of AISC 13th edition code as explained in chapter 4 of design guide # 9. HSS Diaphragm Moment Connection | This spread sheet calculates W type beam to HSS column connection. We can use this type of connection when the other type are not able to transfer the factored moment The reference used in the attached spread sheet is "Hollow Structural Sections-Connection Manual-AISC Copyright 1997. The example in this reference is in LRFD format and imperial units. I used metric units and the Canadian database is attached. The limit states are those indicated for the "Cut-out plate connection" which is very similar connection to this described here. This tool is not password protected in order to give the possibility to make minor changes. Obviously you can protect the spread sheet leaving the input cells(in red) not protected. This workbook contains 3 sheets. 1. Input & results, 2. Canadian database, 3. Sketch -could be printed and give it to the draftperson. This tool must be used only by professional engineers after thorough verification. I designed the tool of my best knowledge but I dont assume any responsibility in case of errors. | | Harry Aslanian | 2018 12

MASTAN2 - | The MASTAN2 structural analysis software is intended for the student or practicing engineer who is interested in exploring nonlinear analysis. Although MASTAN2 is similar in functionality to today's commercial software, the number of pre- and post-processing options have been limited in order to minimize the amount of time needed for a user to become proficient at its use. The analysis routines provide the user the opportunity to perform first- or second-order elastic or inelastic analyses of two- or three-dimensional frames and trusses subjected to static loads. The program is based on the theoretical and numerical formulations presented in the text Matrix Structural Analysis, 2nd Edition, by McGuire, Gallagher, and Ziemian (John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 2000). In this regard, the reader is strongly encouraged to use this software as a learning tool for demonstration, reviewing examples, solving problems, and perhaps performing analysis and design studies. An interactive tutorial is also included. | | SSC | 2018 07

Thin_Walled_Members | This is a visit through a set of Mathcad worksheets to thin wall members as in vigor from 1995 to 2005 in Spain. Those that almost never practice thin wall member construction will find mostly reward in the section that gives Mx, Pu and Puxy direct checks, to get a feeling of what thought were the respective limit loadings; there's also thin wall shapes gif catalog and the code (Part 4 of code NBE-EA 95) and its numerical calculations, and also a US gage to mm thickness conversor both ways. Also of interest are some examples of the calculation of mechanical properties of developable prismatic members made (in shape) of segments, with one excursion from that to the calculation of the properties of a C shaped single lift core mechanical properties. | | Manuel I Oliveros | 2018 07

USS_Box_Girder_Bridges_A_Construction_Manual | With the emergence of the steel/concrete, composite box girder as a relatively new type of structural member for intermediate-span highway bridges, many designers and contractors have become aware of their lack of sufficient experience in this kind of construction. This shortcoming has, at times, led contractors to submit unit bid prices or construction costs higher than necessary. With this in mind, United States Steel offers this manual to provide engineers, fabricators and erectors with a fuller understanding of box girder construction, and to present guidelines that can assist them in the development of designs that will help realize the full economies of box girders. | | Brian Raff | 2018 07
WinTorq | A relatively simple program, circa 1996-1997, intended to aid torsional analysis. Please note that this software HAS NOT been updated for more recent versions of the AISC Specification, so caution is advised. Additionally, you may (or may not) experience odd behavior with modern operating systems. Nevertheless, it can be useful (particularly as an accompaniment to AISC's Design Guide 9) | | SSC | 2018 07
BEAMCOL13 | Analysis of beam-columns with the AISC 13th Edition (ASD). The program covers I-shapes, Built-up I-shapes, Channels, Square / Rectangular HSS, and Round HSS or Pipe. I based this program from Alex Tomanovich's BEAMCOL spreadsheet, but updated it to the 13th Edition. | | Joel Berg | 2018 07
